The internet, being totally anonymous, means that anyone can log on, and send any kind of messages around the web pretending to be someone other than his/her true self. In fact in a fairly recent survey it was found that 25% of teenagers had received unasked for pornographic material to their web addresses.

Chat Rooms. These can be dangerous if care is not taken, someone who is in the teen’s chat room may be someone other than who he/she purports to be for questionable purposes.

When logging on the teen should spend a little time checking out the authenticity of the website he/she is planning to visit, make sure that the information is up to date, especially if seeking health advice.

The teen should check out the domain address of the site to ensure it is just what he/she wants . . .   com (commercial site), gov. (government site), org. (organizational site), edu. (educational site.

If the teen follows these simple guidelines then he/she should experience trouble free surfing.
