The teenager has a tennis companion, they have all the necessary equipment, the sun is shining, and they are both ready to toss the coin for who has first service, and they are ready to play tennis!
But while the game progresses there are certain techniques which should be followed to make the game more enjoyable and free from injury., for example-
Tennis Techniques.
a). Do not arch the back too much when serving the ball or going for an overhead
shot.
b). Raise the heels and bend the knees when making these serving and overhead
shots. Focus the mind on this action.
c). When going for the return of a high ball try to avoid landing on the balls of the
feet, if this is done repeatedly it can damage the Achilles tendon (see RSI”S)
d). It is always wise to have water to hand to drink between breaks, dehydration can
be a problem especially in sunny weather.
e). Keep the handle of the racquet dry at breaks also to avoid the risk of hand
blisters
f). If any discomfort or muscle pain is experienced the player should stop playing
immediately and not resume until fully recovered and able to continue, playing
Get into the game slowly, have practice sessions with a friend without stressing the body, do not forget to always have a warm up knockabout before starting on any serious game. Overexertion is probably the most common cause of injury in tennis, and the process of warming up enables the teen to enter the game in the right frame of mind, and prevent injury.
It is not recommended that tennis be played in adverse weather conditions, hot weather can cause sun burn and possible heat stroke, whilst playing in cold weather encourages muscle stiffness and increases the risk of tears to ligaments and tendons, windy weather can be the cause of RSI’S or repetitive stress injury.
